I woke up,
stumbled my way down the hall and stood in a daze taking in the remnants of a
glorious merriment; serving platters, glasses, plates and utensils covered every
counter. Through the archway into the
living room where the lights still twinkled on the Christmas tree were boxes,
wrapping paper, and the forgotten gift of a guest mixed in a tangled mess.
The days
of preparation, of rushing to clean and shop and wrap and mail and cook had
culminated in one evening of camaraderie, eating and drinking, gift opening and
a celebration of peace and harmony. I smiled.
