Damp and Dreary

Once in awhile a day comes along, a day dreary and damp.  It encourages a soul to curl up on the sofa with a book and a hot cup of tea.  Today was one of those days.  At least it was until the knock on the door, a knock of unusualness, a knock of stealth and wariness.

Beth looked up.  It was too early for the mail.

Without hesitation she opened the door.  Surprise crossed her face at the being sprawled on her stoop.

“My ship has busted a valve.  May I use your communicator to call space triple A?”
