The group,
tired from running a marathon, approached the hostess station located at the
entrance to the hotel restaurant. Inside
they could see empty tables.
“Good
evening.”
“Hi, a
table for four.”
“I’m
sorry, we have a reservation for a large party and there aren’t any extra
tables.”
“How long
of a wait for one of the booths?”
“I can’t
say.”
A moment
of silence as the group considered their willingness to walk any further.
“You must
have some idea of when a booth will be available.”
“I really
can’t say.”
They
turned, disappointment on their faces, and limped out.
