I am calling
in well today, I feel too good to work so I am spending the day with my best
friend, my husband. Several years ago,
my sister who was working twelve-hour days in a Bindery did this:
“Hi, I’m
calling in well today and am not going to make it in to work.”
“You mean
you’re sick?”
“Nope, I
feel great, too good to come into work, so I am not.”
“You want
me to mark you out sick? Or are you
taking a vacation day?”
“Neither,
mark me out well.”
There was
a long pause, then a burst of laughter.
“Got it,
you have a great day and I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Since she
told me about this I have always wanted to do the same on those days when I
wake up feeling rested, that little bubble of unexplained excitement percolating
through my being, just knowing there is an adventure out there waiting for me
if I just take the time to let it unfold.
So, today, I am calling in well and stepping out the door to see where
the day takes me. I’ll be back on
Monday, August 5th with the next chapter of ‘The Inheritance’.
