The bright, red, ball bounced down the carpeted stairs
making a muted thud each time it landed.
It reached the bottom, announcing its presence with a smack on the tiled
floor of the entryway before hitting the front door and sailing out into the
living room.
Conversation came to a halt as guests and hosts alike turned
to look. Mortified, the lady of house’s
cheeks flushed pink, as the sound of her three giggling children drifted down
the stairs.
“Excuse me.”
She stood up from the card table and headed up the stairs to direct her
offspring back into bed.
