Dark, it’s so dark I can’t see my hands in front of my
face. I am perfectly still,
listening for any sound. There is
nothing to hear. My eyes are
closed and I focus on my other senses.
My nostrils flare as I inhale seeking any stray scent in the
air around me. Nothing!
Where am I?
I reach out with my hands and feel empty space. There is nothing there. My mind drifts, wandering in the
blankness of forgetfulness.
What’s that?
There is a flare of light as my husband turns on his bedside
lamp.
