Winter Snow

The snow drifted down softly.  It landed, covering everything with a blanket of white.  All sound was muted.

He peered though the falling curtain, his eyes narrowed to slits as he studied the expanse before him.

Hunger gnawed at him as he moved forward into the storm.  He padded through the snow forming a path as he went.  His stomach growled, making him aware of his need.  It all came down to this, do or die.

He breathed in the scent of baking bread, set the snow shovel next to the door, stamped his feet and entered the warm house.
