A lessening of the velvet black of the night sky heralded
the coming dawn. The fresh morning
breeze swept her hair back, bringing the pungent scent of land to her nose as
her eyes took in the solid green wall of foliage along the shoreline.
Thirty days of hard sailing had brought her here to a new
land full of promise. It had cost
her everything to buy passage. It
would have cost her, her life if she had stayed.
She inhaled deeply, feeling freedom within reach.
