Ship Ahoy

A lessening of the velvet black of the night sky heralded the coming dawn.  The fresh morning breeze swept her hair back, bringing the pungent scent of land to her nose as her eyes took in the solid green wall of foliage along the shoreline.

Thirty days of hard sailing had brought her here to a new land full of promise.  It had cost her everything to buy passage.  It would have cost her, her life if she had stayed.

She inhaled deeply, feeling freedom within reach.

“Ship Ahoy”

She watched in dismay as his Lordship’s ship sailed into view.
